There have been rumors spreading that some people have two heads and more hours in a day than the rest of us because of the sheer volume of productivity they are able to push out but comprehensive research by a highly skilled team of experts has now proven that everyone really does have one head and 24 hours in their day. What these experts found however is that the most productive ones seem to obey similar patterns in approaching their work and RiteTrac Consulting has drawn out steps from these patterns that are easy enough to follow and make everyone who is interested more productive!

  • Planning: There is NO way you can navigate your day efficiently if you take everything as they come. Planning is highly essential to delivering the best results in your work. Most productive people plan their days the night before. This involves listing the tasks you have ahead, along with the time and resources that are required to carry them out. The extent of details are dependent on the User but it is important to have a clearly defined list of the tasks you intend to carry out.
  • Prioritize your most important tasks: Not all tasks require equal attention or mental/physical energy. The best way to get through your day without much difficulty is to take on the most important and tasking endeavors FIRST and then move on to easier tasks as your energy level declines.
  • STOP Multitasking: Contrary to popular belief, multitasking does not improve productivity; instead it makes you prone to making mistakes, having to rework and forgetting some of the other tasks you may need to do. However, if you must do more than one thing at the same time, batch similar tasks together e.g Emails and phone calls can be handled around the same time as you are on a commute.
  • Living Healthy: An area only a few people pay attention to is healthy eating. The energy you are able to deploy towards a task depends on the state of your body. The brain needs the right food to function optimally. It also needs good sleep to avoid making you prone to errors. You should also take breaks to refresh your brain, eyes, and body as you take short walks before returning to your task. This serves as a form of recharge
  • Eliminate Digital Distractions: A report says those aged 15 to 24 on average spend four hours a day on the phone compared with 2 hours 49 minutes for all adults. The young also check their phones every 8.6 minutes. This translates to about ONE FULL DAY in the week. These figures are rising, indicating the increasing addiction to phones. Without a doubt, this is tearing at the productivity of many individuals. It is therefore important to eliminate these digital distractions either by putting the devices away completely or installing apps that help curb addiction like Digital Wellbeing, Forest, Siempo, etc which locks out your phone for a set time, allowing only calls to come in.
  • Impose deadlines: Having open-ended tasks only means that you can start as many tasks as you’d like. This, of course, is not the point of having tasks. The completion of preset tasks is the measure of your productivity- therefore it is important to have deadlines imposed on yourself to ensure that you don’t have so many open-ended tasks littered across board.
  • Keep writing material handy: In the course of performing a task, it is not unlikely that a good idea may just pop into your good head. However, if you pause your current task to pursue the idea, you may fail to complete it in time; if you continue your current task without paying enough attention to the idea, you may forget it. This is why you should have writing material handy so that you can quickly document ideas for later action.
  • Delegate: Many managers are afraid to delegate responsibility. Unfortunately for them, that is the only way to grow your team’s capacity and not burden yourself with simple tasks that may prove time/energy-consuming. Time that could be spent performing more productive tasks. Delegating also helps in sharing your goals with other people which in turn helps compel you to perform the part of the work you said you would perform.
  • Reward yourself: A reward is always a good incentive; whether it comes from other people or from your self. A reward helps you to focus on getting the results out so you can clinch it. Rewards do not necessarily have to be major or expensive but simply fulfilling that you achieved what you set out to do and you earned that reward.
